The WASDA Scholarship Fund Board of Directors proudly awards the following students with $1,000 to use toward higher education!  Each scholarship is renewable for up to four years based on maintaining a 3.0 GPA (or higher). The Recipients of the Matt Stager Scholarship for 2021 are listed below:

Kenna Heupel, Core & Main

My name is Kenna Heupel. I have just graduated from Renaissance High School in Boise, Idaho with my Associate of Arts degree from Idaho State University. This fall, I am attending the College of Idaho to earn my bachelor’s degree. I am not yet set on one particular area of study or career path, so I plan on exploring my passions in environmental sciences, history, and Spanish during my studies. I am very excited to find out more about myself and ultimately see where my schooling takes me. Thank you to WASDA for helping me in this goal!

Grace Schaefer, Core & Main

Dear Matt Stager Scholarship Committee and WASDA members,

Thank you for taking the time to consider me and many other applicants for this scholarship. I am extremely honored to have received the Matt Stager Scholarship. I plan to attend Indiana University - Bloomington in the Fall, where I will be studying accounting as a direct admit into the Kelley School of Business and the Hutton Honors College.

During my four years at Nerinx Hall High School, in Webster Groves, MO, I was a member of National Honors Society, Nerinx Hall Varsity Swim and Dive team, Outreach Service Club, and was a school ambassador. As a swimmer on the Nerinx Hall Varsity Team I was a 3x All-State and All-Conference Swimmer, 3x school record holder, and 2019 Missouri State Champion in the 200 Freestyle Relay. I also received many academic awards such as the Missouri State Biliteracy Seal in Spanish, The President’s Award for Educational Excellence (from The US Secretary of Education and the President of the United States), and Kevin Budd Science Scholarship. Outside of school I swam year-round for Clayton Shaw Park Tideriders, coached/swam for the Brentwood Swim Club during the summer, and volunteered at my parish.

I again want to emphasize how grateful I am for your financial award. By awarding me the Matt Stager Scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school: learning. As I pursue my dreams at Indiana University, your generosity will not be forgotten.

Emma Whittenberg, Core & Main

Hello! My name is Emma Whittenburg and I graduated from Parkway West High School as a student of the class of 2020. I was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club International, Best Buddies, Link Crew, and a heavily involved member of our theatre department. Some of my hobbies include baking, walking my dog, volunteering at our church, and getting good food with my family.

I was accepted into Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and will be attending college there for my next schooling adventure. I am going in as an undecided major so I get the opportunity to take advantage of all the classes and career paths that Colgate has to offer. While I may be going a far way from home, I know my family will support me in all my future endeavors.

Thank you very much for this scholarship and I wish everyone the best in the upcoming year!
