Member FAQs

How does my company become a member of WASDA?

Interested companies who wish to become a WASDA member should fill out the appropriate membership application (distributor or manufacturer) and then submit the application with dues payment to [email protected] or to WASDA Headquarters. Once headquarters receives your application, a member of the management team will contact you to validate your application. Your application is then submitted to the WASDA Board of Director for approval. Decisions can take up to 14 business days; the key contact is notified of the board’s decision via email.

How much does it cost to be a member?

Associate Members costs $2,300 annually while Distributor Membership is based on sales volume from the prior fiscal year; fees range from $987-$10,854. Distributor dues categories are held confidentially at WASDA Headquarters. No volunteer, including Board Members, can access this information. Registration for events such as the Fall Meeting & Partnership Forum and the Annual Meeting are not included in annual membership fees.

What happens if I join in the middle of the year? Will you prorate my dues?

No. The WASDA membership dues cycle runs from 1/1 through 12/31 each year.

Are my membership dues a business tax deduction?

Contributions or gifts to WASDA are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes; however, dues, publications, advertising, and registration fees are generally deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses.  WASDA estimates that 20% of your membership dues are not deductible because they are allocable to lobbying activities. At year’s end, you will be notified of the exact percentage of non-deductible amounts paid as dues and used for lobbying. However, contributions to the WASDA Scholarship Fund are tax exempt as charitable donations. As to all of these issues, you should check with your accountant in preparing your company’s tax returns.

Do I have to attend each meeting?

No, you are not required to attend.  However, if you want to get the most bang for your buck, attending is suggested.

How does the Fall Meeting & Partnership Forum work?

The main benefit of the Fall Meeting is the Partnership Forum.  Distributors host contact tables and meet with Associate Members during pre-determined appointments.  Appointments are 15 minutes in length, affording you an opportunity to pitch a new client, review key sales figures or discuss a product/service issue.  Members may book meetings back to back if agreed upon by other parties.  The scheduling process opens in late July.

How can I become involved in WASDA?

Joining a WASDA committee is an easy way to get involved. You can learn more about the various WASDA Committees here. To join, email us at [email protected] indicating the Committee you’re interested in.
