WASDA Scholarship Recipients 2024

The WASDA Scholarship Fund Board of Directors proudly awards the following students with $1,000 to use toward higher education!  Each scholarship is renewable for up to four years based on maintaining a 3.0 GPA (or higher). The Recipients of the WASDA Scholarship for 2024 are listed below:

Jon Owen Carlson, EMCO Waterworks

Bonjour! My name is Jon Owen Carlson and I am a recent graduate of Walnut Grove Secondary School (École Sécondaire Walnut Grove) in Langley, British Columbia. A summer job working in the EMCO Corporation warehouse has made me the third generation in my family to have worked in the sewer and water distribution industry. This fall, I will be attending the University of Waterloo, starting a Bachelor of Environmental Sciences degree majoring in geography and aviation. My ultimate goal is to become a commercial pilot. I will be going to Waterloo as a varsity athlete, committed to play on the Waterloo Warriors varsity baseball team.

Thank you to WASDA and the WASDA membership for supporting my goals.

Mackenzie McCall, American Cast Iron Pipe Co.

My name is Mackenzie McCall, and I’m majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama starting in the fall. I was in the Spain Park Engineering Academy and participated in the Technology Student Association club run by the club as well as being Class of 2024 President. To further expand my understanding of what is ethical as well as broaden my perspective I’ve been a part of Model UN and am president of not only the Spain Park’s National Speech and Debate Honor Society but also Model UN itself.

I enjoy learning and am always looking for more opportunities to get the best education possible to not only better my own future but the future of other people as well. As a part of the University of Alabama’s Honors College and the Achieve Scholars program I plan to do their accelerated master’s program. I'm so grateful for being given this scholarship and all the future opportunities that will come with its use.

Although my major is undecided, I plan on earning a minor in pre-law through the extensive opportunities that Arizona offers. I look forward to pursuing a law degree post-undergrad!
